AskMyGP

Routine Appointments

All consultations with doctor or nurse are by appointment, please use the AskMyGP tool using the above link or contact reception staff on 01942 807600 if you require an appointment.

Alternatively you can register to use the Practice's on-line services, SystmOnline, which allows you to make an appointment with the doctor, order a repeat prescription or look at certain areas of your medical records.

Female GP, Dr. Khalika Sonara is currently in attendance on a weekly basis each Tuesday and Thursday and Dr. Prasad Mahadevappa, male GP, is currently in attendance each Monday

Please note, all appointments are meant for you to discuss one problem only.

Urgent Appointments

If you become acutely unwell and feel you require an urgent appointment please contact the surgery on 01942 807600 - DO NOT USE THE ASKMYGP TOOL LINK GIVEN ABOVE. As far as possible all urgent requests will be dealt with that same day.  It is our policy to discourage patients from dropping into surgery asking to be seen without an appointment - all consultations (urgent or routine) are strictly on an appointment basis.

If all the appointments have been taken in the surgery for the day, surgery staff will provide you with the telephone number of the Wigan Alliance GP Hubs;  the GP Hubs offer additional appointments to your GP surgery and you can often be seen the same day by a GP at the Hub - this will not be your usual/Registered GP but the GP in question will have sufficient access to your medical records to allow a consultation to take place.  The appointment booking line telephone number for the Wigan GP Alliance Hub is 01942 482848.

Extended Hours

The Practice operates an extended session one evening per week 18:30 to 20:15, Monday - Friday, but the evening can vary; please consult with reception staff if you require a late night appointment.

GP Alliance Hubs

When the surgery is closed patients registered with the Practice have other alternative ways of seeking medical attention, for example, through the Wigan GP Alliance Service;  the GP Alliance Hubs are managed by local GPs (though not necessarily your own GP) and are open Wednesday afternoon 13:00 to 18:30, Monday to Friday 18:30 to 20:00 and Saturday & Sunday 10:00 to 16:00 and are operated on a pre-bookable appointment basis (please note appointment booking line is open 09:30 until 19:15 weekdays and 09:30 to 15:15 at weekends).

Home Visits

In order that Doctor may safely carry out consulting sessions here at the surgery, Home visits are mainly for those patients who are too ill to leave their home.  Unavailability of transport should not be presumed to be a reason to request a home visit.

If you feel that you are too ill to attend the surgery, and wish to request a home visit, whenever possible please ring the surgery before 10:30 to request a home visit. Reception staff will usually ask if you are willing to give the reason for requesting a home visit and will then put your request to the doctor along with the details you have provided.

The doctor may telephone you to discuss/consider if a home visit is appropriate - placing a request for a home visit does not necessarily mean that one will be agreed.

Telephone Consultations

If you wish to speak to the doctor or nurse, but you do not necessarily require a face-to-face consultation, it is possible to arrange a telephone consultation.

Please contact reception staff on 01942 807600 to request a telephone consultation with the appropriate clinician.

Winter Time

From late November through to March each year, due to additional funding provided by NHS England/Wigan Borough CCG, the Practice is able to offer additional Winter appointments; staff will extend these appointments to you automatically as and when they are available.  The Practice is grateful to NHS England/Wigan Borough CCG for the additional funding which has been allowed in recent years.

Cancel an Appointment

It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters maybe removed from the list.

You can also complete our appointment cancellation notification request form. This can only be used if your appointment has been arranged for more than 24 hours in advance. (excluding weekends and public holidays). You can also text to cancel your appointment.

Text Reminder Service

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.

To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.

Please remember to update your contact details with us when you change address, telephone numbers and email address.

Medical Students

The Practice is proud to be part of the Post-Graduate Teaching community as we are an accredited GP Teaching Practice.  Medical students from the University of Manchester complete educational placements at the Practice and may be involved in some of the clinics you attend.  If you do not wish to have a medical student involved in your care, please advise a member of staff prior to commencement of your appointment.

Equally, if you are willing to have a student involved in your care, please feel free to give us feedback on your experience - your feedback can be totally anonymised or feel free to leave your contact details if you wish to discuss the matter further with the Practice Manager or Dr. Kumar.

Patient Transport to Hospital Appointments

Routine (non-urgent) Ambulance Transport

Requests for routine/non-urgent ambulance transport are arranged through the Referral and Booking Management Service (RBMS). The letter you receive from the hospital advising you of an appointment should provide you with details as to how to book patient transport.  However, a telephone triage service will assess you to ensure you fulfil the criteria for ambulance transport. Please telephone RBMS on 01942 482990 to ask if you qualify for ambulance transport. If you do wish to be considered for patient transport please contact the telephone triage team 48 hours in advance of your need for transport.
